About

Kathy Chapman

I am a Stroud-based artist and make  paintings primarily using watercolour on paper or panel, as well as other media such as ink, pastels and charcoal, to expressing my response to fleeting moments.

I work mostly from direct observation, using plants and flowers from my own garden when I can and also painting the landscape local to where I live in Stroud.

I’m particularly fascinated by the unpredictability of watercolour; it’s not easily controllable but can give interesting results if left to itself, and, rather like nature, can transform into something unexpected yet intriguing.

I paint in order to express a sense of joy and wonder for the natural world, and to communicate this connection through my work.
